Major Winter Storm Feb 1st/2nd
Time to get this thread going. It's looks like this is going to be by far the biggest winter storm this year and quite possibly in past years as well. All the things we need for a major storm are coming together. The only question is who gets the most snow/ice??? GFS is already predicting alot of snow. It will be fun to watch the models as they come out.

snow
The latest GFS 00Z is showing 10-12 inches of snow for Springfield. It looks like the latest models have taken away a lot of the ice and sleet that they were predicting and replaced that with just snow, therefore the reason for the higher totals. If the cold air can make its way fast in the area we could just get dumped on with regards to the amount of snow.

Wow now GFS 06z is saying 16-18 inches of snow for Springfield. Nothing for West Plains. Better start planning now for the worse!!!

Wow! Even the latest NAM is showing 12-14 inches for Springfield and the NAM is usually MUCH more conservative in its snowfall forecasts compared to the GFS. It also looks like we could get over 2 inches of liquid out of this storm, so that would be a lot of snow. This storm has the potential of being the perfect winter storm for Springfield.

I haven't been to those sites before but look like a good source for up to date information. Based on your past experiences how accurate is the data this far out from the storm? I find it interesting that no one from any local station and even Weather Channel or AccuWeather are predicting snowfall amounts today. I would think that the potential intensity of the storm would generate more early information that what has been presented on local news. It may be that with the main part of the storm still out in the Pacific that the track and intensity may change and possible no one wants to start a major rush to the grocery stores ?

accuweather and weather channel dont care unless it might have something to do with the east coast, they will cover it after a disaster, but not before. I think the locals are staying away from the amounts because 2 or 3 degrees different temp could change amounts a very large amount. Looking for the educated guessing to begin tonight. I'm going with North of 44 10" south of 44 totals drop off fast with alot of ice along the border.

So Bowtie, are you saying the higher the snowfall totals, the lower the ice totals?

Yes, it certainly appears that way.
