Friday Night Storms
Keeping a close eye on Friday, but it is not looking overall too impressive. Below is the SPC Day 3 outlook.
Re: Friday Night Storms
I'm thinking come tomorrow all of us will be under the "slight" area. It has just been too warm for us to not get something big!

You are right Mindi. All of SW Missouri, a large part of South-Central Missouri and a small portion of Central Missouri have been placed in a Slight Risk for severe thunderstorms this Friday afternoon through the evening hours. The main threats with this system will be gusty winds near 60MPH and quarter size hail.
Here is a graphic of the areas covered in the Slight Risk:
Per the NWS in Springfield; "A cold front moving through Southeast Kansas and Southwest Missouri Friday afternoon will produce a few strong to severe thunderstorms. Wind gusts near 60 mph and quarter size hail will be possible in the strongest storms."
Next is the latest Hazardous Weather Outlook from the National Weather Service in Springfield:
THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR PORTIONS OF THE MISSOURI
OZARKS AND EXTREME SOUTHEAST KANSAS.
.DAY ONE...TODAY AND TONIGHT.
THE HAZARDOUS WEATHER RISK LEVEL IS...ELEVATED.
WEATHER HAZARDS EXPECTED:
THUNDERSTORM WIND GUST RISK IS ELEVATED WITH GUSTS NEAR 60 MPH POSSIBLE...
HAIL RISK IS ELEVATED WITH HAIL TO THE SIZE OF QUARTERS...
LIGHTNING RISK IS SIGNIFICANT...
FIRE WEATHER RISK IS LIMITED...
NON THUNDERSTORM WIND RISK IS LIMITED...
AREAS AFFECTED AND TIMING:
STRONG TO SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE POSSIBLE ALONG A COLD FRONT
THAT WILL MOVE INTO SOUTHEAST KANSAS BY EARLY AFTERNOON AND THROUGH
SOUTH CENTRAL MISSOURI TONIGHT. SOME THUNDERSTORMS COULD PRODUCE
DAMAGING WINDS WITH GUSTS NEAR 60 MPH POSSIBLE ALONG WITH HAIL UP TO
THE SIZE OF QUARTERS.
THERE IS A LIMITED NON THUNDERSTORM WIND GUST RISK TODAY AHEAD OF
THIS COLD FRONT WITH WIND GUSTS IN EXCESS OF 30 MPH POSSIBLE.
THERE REMAINS A LIMITED RISK OF FIRE WEATHER ACROSS THE OUTLOOK
AREA. GUSTY SOUTH WINDS WILL CONTINUE WITH LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY
LEVELS AND DRY FUELS.
DISCUSSION:
WHILE MOISTURE IS LIMITED...MARGINAL INSTABILITY AND SUFFICIENT
SHEAR IS EXPECTED THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT FOR STRONG TO SEVERE
THUNDERSTORMS ALONG A COLD FRONT ADVANCING FROM SOUTHEAST KANSAS
THROUGH THE MISSOURI OZARKS.

Here are the current Risk levels with today's system:
Also, as you can see the Lightning hazard is "Significant". Be very careful if you must be outdoors or if you plan to use indoor appliances or if you use the telephone. I always make it an automatic habit to turn off appliances that are in use (i.e. clothes washer/dryer, microwave oven, dishwasher) and refrain from using any telephone when a severe thunderstorm warning has been issued until the storm has clearly passed my area.
