Eight days out and this storm continues to look like a powerhouse!

This system is gonna mean business, look at the 850mb jet.

Question now becomes moisture return, and man that doesn't look like an issue.

Then here is a look at 6hr precip charts.

Anyone know why the images I keep posting are updating without me updating them?

it sure does look like a winner maybe it will bring some severe weather with it at least the gfs model looks like it could be a very powerful storm.

Disregard the images now on this post as they are currently updating, just keep in mind that this storm system does look powerfull, it's still 7.5 to 8 days out. Things could change.

This system does look powerful as of right now for next Saturday. One has to remember though that the GFS loves to make these systems out to be stronger than they will be. For days and days the system that will bring us rain this week looked to be a strong one. It still could bring some thunder, but I don't expect anything too strong.

The GFS struggles with these kinds of systems. It certainly bears watching though because if it evolves like it looks, look out! Long way to go though. Wink

Saturday January 23rd Empty Model disagreement

Post  Stormman Sat Jan 16, 2010 10:37 pm

The euro is not in agreement with next weekends gfs solution, this is common as we all know. However the GFS has forecasted this storm for a while now. It bears watching, I'm gonna lay low on the posts until Tue/Wed next week.

I haven't had a lot of time to look at the models lately. What does the forecast hold concerning severe potential on Saturday? Still a possibility?

SPC keeps the risk just south of us on Day 5.

I'm sure Kevin will chime in a bit later with more details as he has been forecasting this lately and I'm hanging in the newsroom today...

It certainly looks like thunderstorms will move in Saturday. As for severe storms, still a little too early for me to comfortably say severe. There will certainly be a heck of a lot of shear, that is for sure. If there is severe I'd be most concerned with damaging winds and hail. If we can get some instability in here we'll certainly have to watch for tornadic development.

This is certainly something to keep watching. Kevin and I were talking earlier about how consistent the GFS has been with this system. I usually don't buy into the GFS too early because it has a tendency to back off the strength as the event gets closer. It certainly has not backed off on this one and other models are coming into agreement with it. Stay tuned...
